Classrooms

Class Times

Classrooms Operate:
Half Day 8:45am – 12:00noon
Full Day 8:45am – 3:00pm

Children are greeted by the teachers when they arrive and when they are ready to be received by their parents at the end of the day. Parents are encouraged to inform teachers of any unusual happenings so that the teachers may support the child.

Parents are requested to ensure that their children arrive at school on time. Children arriving late miss early interactions and disturb the concentration and atmosphere of the class.

Teachers need to prepare for their children so parents are requested to leave children at school not more than 10 minutes before the start of school and receive their children at 3 pm. If there is a need to leave children earlier, please make arrangements with the office.

Clothing and Equipment Requirements

We suggest that younger children come to school in clothing that is easy to put on and take off to encourage independence and ease in the toilet.

An optional school uniform is available through the office by request and on uniform shop days, usually at the beginning of each term. Information regarding opening times and uniform prices is sent home via classroom pockets. A recent uniform price list can be viewed here: Uniform Price List PDF

Please provide the following for school:

  • Hats, which protect the face, neck and ears (Wide brimmed hats or legionnaires caps). This is required every day for playtime and outdoor activities. “No Hat, No Play”
  • Suitable shoes (not thongs or high heels) should be worn. Children are expected to wear laced up sneakers for sport.
  • A change of clothing should be sent for 3 year olds (in case of accidents).
  • Jewelry is not to be worn at school for safety reasons except small stud earrings. The school cannot take responsibility for loss, damage or personal injury.
  • A school bag large enough to hold a lunch box, hat and some books etc.
  • A china or pottery mug kept at school during the term.
  • Other equipment requirements are listed for parents each year.

Health

Infections can spread rapidly in a close school environment. Children who are ill must remain at home until the infectious period is completely over. Medical practitioners advice is essential.

Children enrolled at Rockingham Montessori School need to be immunised according to the immunisation schedule laid down by the Health Department of WA.

Medication prescribed by a medical practitioner may be administered by the administration staff provided this is specially requested in writing by the child’s parent/legal guardian on the “Request to Administer Medication” form.

The school nurse visits regularly providing services for over 4 year olds and we have access to dental therapy services at Safety Bay Primary School for children over 6 years of age.

Lunches, Birthdays, Absences, Toys and Mobile Phones

Lunches: Children are expected to have healthy lunches, fruit and vegetables for their morning snack. Chocolate, sweets, and chips are not to be brought to school.

Please see the Rockingham Montessori School Healthy Eating Policy.

Birthdays: To commemorate birthdays, children are encouraged to bring a fruit platter to share with their class.

Birthdays are an important celebration in the life of a young child. Your child’s Director will explain.

* Parents may wish to donate a book to the class to celebrate your child’s birthday. For suggestions please speak to your class director.

Absences: The Education Department requires that a primary school student who is sick or absent from school for any reason needs a written note for the day or days of their absence. Please provide this to your child’s Director on the child’s return to school.

Toys: We request that children do not bring their toys to school

Mobile Phones: We request that children do not bring mobile phones to school. If they are brought to school they must be left at the school office until the end of the day.
